Kazakhstan Proposes Age Restrictions for Social Media Registration
The Digital Code draft law is being considered in the first reading in Kazakhstan’s Parliament (Majilis). Within its framework, it is proposed to introduce age restrictions for registering on social media platforms.
The initiative was put forward by MP Askhat Aimagambetov, who noted that similar measures have already been implemented in a number of other countries.
“For example, in Denmark and Australia, registration is allowed only from the age of 15–16. In the USA, England, and Ireland, this can be done only with special parental permission and user verification. We could introduce a similar rule under this law,” — said Aimagambetov.
The main goal of the new Digital Code is to improve online safety, regulate the presence of minors on social networks, and strengthen the protection of personal data in the digital environment.
