Modern Equipment Expands Geology and Exploration Capabilities in Turkmenistan
The intensive development of geology and geophysics across Turkmenistan demonstrates the effective implementation of the state policy aimed at identifying and efficiently utilizing the country's natural resources. These efforts also contribute to strengthening the nation's strong economic foundation.
Recently, an important technological upgrade took place — the regional geophysical expedition received five specialized vehicles equipped with Nomad–65 Neo vibroseismic systems from the French company Sercel, along with 508 XT seismic stations. The new devices are already being successfully used by geologists and provide valuable results.
Successful research using advanced equipment
Experts of the expedition’s 61st geophysical party are currently conducting seismic studies along a 1060-kilometer research line. The work began in the first quarter of the year.
Nomad–65 Neo vibroseismic units are placed 50 meters apart, generating strong seismic waves. Four additional units remain active, ensuring accurate data collection on subsurface structures.
Seismic receivers placed every 3–4 kilometers register reflected waves and transmit them to seismic stations. After processing the seismograms, time-section models of the Earth's crust are created and underground layers are analyzed.
Chief geologist Maksat Jepparov said:
“The collected data help us accurately study the structure of the subsurface. We are confident that the new equipment will ensure successful exploration in the Danev district of Lebap province.”
Discovery of gas-bearing layers — new opportunities
Using the new equipment, gas-bearing formations were identified in the Hazarly area of the Gorogly district in Dashoguz province. Positive results are also expected in Danev.
These achievements were made possible thanks to specialists who underwent training abroad. Expedition employees were sent to France to master the modern technologies.
Contribution of experts and future plans
Significant contributions to the research are made by:
Aziz Komekov, Babakhan Jumakulyev, Narmamet Bazarov, Babageldi Soltanov, Chary Imamov, Yusup Kalanderov, Azat Klyjov, and Guych Berdimyradov.
Future plans include continuing seismic research in the Mergen and South Mergen geological structures along the Amu Darya River. Additionally, research conducted in 2022–2023 at the Tachmyradov site near the Malay gas field yielded highly positive results.
M. Jepparov also noted:
“We consider all our successes to be the result of the consistent support of our Hero-Arkadag and Arkadagly Hero Serdar.”
Exploration of hydrocarbon resources deep within the Karakum Desert continues successfully thanks to modern equipment, advanced technologies, and experienced specialists.
The expedition's employees look forward to achieving new results in strengthening the country’s energy security.
