French automaker Citroën has unveiled a concept for a modern version of its iconic 2CV, powered by an electric motor, at the Paris Motor Show. Series production of the new vehicle is planned to begin in 2028. Its starting price is expected to be around €15,000.
According to Turkmenportal, citing Electrek, the Citroën 2CV was produced between 1948 and 1990. Distinguished by its affordable price, compact dimensions and distinctive design, the car became one of the best-known models intended for mass-market use. Total sales of the model exceeded 5 million units.
The exterior of the new concept retains the key features of the original 2CV. In particular, the car’s distinctive silhouette, compact dimensions and folding roof have been reinterpreted in a modern design.
The manufacturer has not yet provided detailed information about the technical specifications of the new electric vehicle. According to Electrek’s estimate, its driving range on a single charge could reach up to 250 kilometres. However, this figure has not yet been officially confirmed.
Bringing the new 2CV concept into production could mark an important step in combining Citroën’s historical heritage with modern electric vehicle technologies. If the vehicle’s starting price is set at around €15,000, this would indicate that it is intended to compete in the affordable electric vehicle market.
