The first elections to Kazakhstan's new unicameral parliament, the Kurultai, are being held in the country. Voting at polling stations began at 07:00 local time and will end at 20:00. Once voting concludes, the counting of ballot papers will begin. The results of the elections are expected to be determined and officially published within 10 days from the election day, meaning no later than September 1. Voting is taking place at over 10.4 thousand polling stations across Kazakhstan. In addition, 79 polling stations have been established alongside 61 diplomatic missions of Kazakhstan abroad.

545 candidates are participating in the elections The Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan registered a total of 545 candidates from seven political parties to participate in the parliamentary elections. Among the candidates are 186 from the "Adilet" party, 63 from the "Ak Zhol" party, 69 from the "Auyl" party, 47 from the "Baitak" party, 72 from the People's Party of Kazakhstan, 33 from the Nationwide Social Democratic Party, and 75 from the "Respublica" party. Thus, candidates representing various political forces of the country are competing for seats in the new parliament.

International observers monitor the elections The elections are also being monitored internationally. The Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan has accredited a total of 777 foreign observers representing 42 foreign countries and 13 international organizations. Among the international observers are 138 parliament deputies from 41 countries. They oversee the voting process and the organizational aspects of the elections.

The Kurultai is elected for the first time These elections mark a significant transformation in Kazakhstan's parliamentary system. As a result of the elections, the first composition of the Kurultai will be elected as the supreme representative body exercising legislative power in the country. Previously, Kazakhstan had a bicameral parliament consisting of the Mazhilis and the Senate. In the new system, with the transition of the parliament to a unicameral format, the Kurultai will act as the primary legislative body.
