Iran is considering the possibility of expanding freight transportation via the Caspian Sea and redirecting a portion of trade flows to the northern regions of the country. This initiative is called the "Caspian Express."

According to the Orient.tm website, the initiative aims to diversify Iran's transport and logistics routes in connection with the current complex situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Within the framework of the project, it is planned to more actively utilize the potential of the ports of Anzali, Amirabad, and Nowshahr. It is envisaged that cargo will be transported from these ports across the Caspian Sea to the ports of partner countries.

The development of new routes could allow Iran to diversify its trade routes accessing Central Asian and Eurasian markets, reduce logistics costs, and create an alternative transport corridor.

This situation is also significant for Turkmenistan's transport and logistics potential. The Turkmenbashi International Seaport, located on the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea, possesses the capabilities to attract new cargo flows as an important logistics center at the intersection of the "North–South" and "East–West" international transport corridors.

The expansion of trade transportation via the Caspian Sea can create additional conditions for the development of transport-communication and trade-economic cooperation among the states of the region.
