In the first six months of 2026, 4,469 tourists from Turkmenistan visited Malaysia.

In January–June 2026, 4,469 tourists travelled from Turkmenistan to Malaysia. This is stated in data from Tourism Malaysia, an organisation focused on the development of Malaysia’s tourism industry.

During the reporting period, a total of 53,347 tourists from the five Central Asian countries — Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan — visited Malaysia. This figure is 23.3 percent higher than in the same period of 2025. In the first six months of last year, 43,280 tourists from the region visited Malaysia.

Uzbekistan recorded the highest growth in the number of tourists among the countries of the region. The number of tourists from Uzbekistan visiting Malaysia increased by 62 percent to 16,283. The number of visitors from Tajikistan rose by 60.2 percent to 2,131.

Kazakhstan, Malaysia’s largest tourism market in Central Asia, sent 26,296 tourists to the country. This represents an 11.8 percent increase compared with the same period last year. The number of tourists from Kyrgyzstan also increased by 13.7 percent, reaching 4,168.

According to Tourism Malaysia, the growing interest of tourists from Central Asia, including Turkmenistan, in Malaysia is supported by the country’s diverse tourism opportunities, developed halal infrastructure, wide range of halal cuisine and facilities for prayer.

The expansion of air connectivity also plays an important role in developing tourism ties between the region and Malaysia.

The increase in tourist flows is taking place within the framework of the international Visit Malaysia 2026–2027 campaign, which is aimed at promoting Malaysia’s diverse tourism destinations and leisure opportunities worldwide.

Tourism Malaysia describes Central Asia as one of the promising regions for further developing tourism cooperation with Malaysia.
