Creating high-yielding and high-quality cotton varieties adapted to local conditions through scientific breeding is one of the important directions of agriculture. Large-scale work is being carried out in Turkmenistan to modernize the agricultural sector, introduce scientific achievements into production, and increase crop yields. In this direction, special importance is also attached to the cotton-growing sector. The creation of new varieties that correspond to local soil and climatic conditions, are early-ripening, high-yielding, and have a high lint turnout is one of the pressing demands of the time. Breeder scientists of the Scientific-Research Institute of Cotton Growing carry out consistent scientific research in this direction. The creation of new cotton varieties is accomplished as a result of complex breeding work lasting for several years. Such scientific work is aimed at increasing cotton yield and fiber quality, taking into account the needs of production. One such new variety is the medium-staple "Ýolöten–54" variety. This variety successfully passed the primary and competitive variety trials of the Scientific-Research Institute of Cotton Growing, tests conducted at the crop seed production center of the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan, as well as production trials. The plant of the "Ýolöten–54" variety is distinguished by its unique morphological features. The height of the plant reaches 90–100 centimeters. The stem is of medium thickness, sturdy, and lodging-resistant. Fruit branches shorten from bottom to top, giving the plant a pyramidal shape. The first fruit branch emerges from the 4th–5th node. The leaves of the variety are of medium size, three-lobed, and dark green in color. The bolls are of medium size, consisting of 4–5 locules. The shape of the boll is round, with a slightly protruding tip and a smooth surface. Along with the good opening of the locules, an important feature of this variety is that the bolls do not drop to the ground and are well retained on the plant. The average weight of seed cotton in one boll is 5.2 grams. The seeds are of medium size, with white fuzz on the surface. The weight of 1,000 seeds is in the range of 96–100 grams. The fiber of the "Ýolöten–54" variety is white in color and easily separates from the seed. The fiber turnout reaches 38.2 percent, and its length reaches 32–33 millimeters. These indicators show that the variety possesses fiber characteristics of vital importance for the textile industry. The creation and introduction of new varieties into production makes it possible not only to increase cotton yields but also to supply the textile industry with high-quality raw materials. Therefore, the harmonious development of scientific breeding, seed production, and production practice occupies an important place in the future development of cotton growing. The creation of new varieties adapted to local conditions, such as "Ýolöten–54", is a clear example of the fact that Turkmen cotton growing is developing on a scientific basis and new opportunities are opening up in agricultural production.
