Volkswagen has unveiled the first images of the new "Amarok" pickup truck tailored for the South American market. Production of the new model is scheduled to begin in 2027 at the Volkswagen General Pacheco plant in Argentina.

The new "Amarok" will differ significantly from the global version currently produced on the Ford Ranger platform. Thus, starting from 2027, Volkswagen may offer two distinct models under the "Amarok" name for different markets.

According to preliminary data, the architecture of the new pickup intended for South America may be linked to models created in cooperation with the SAIC concern. In particular, it is likely to use the technical base of the pickup known in China as the "Maxus Interstellar X."

Teaser images released by the company indicate that the exterior of the new "Amarok" will also undergo a major overhaul. The front end of the vehicle will feature an LED light bar spanning the width of the body, additional daytime running lights, and a radiator grille with horizontal lines.

One of the key features of the new model will be an electrified powertrain. Volkswagen has already announced that the future "Amarok" will feature the most powerful version in the model's history.

According to preliminary data, the top-tier PHEV variant, expected to be named the 800 TSI, could deliver over 470 horsepower and approximately 800 Nm of torque. Such a vehicle is expected to accelerate from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in less than five seconds.

The most powerful version of the new pickup is expected to utilize an all-wheel-drive system. At the same time, versions with diesel engines are also likely to remain in production.

In the South American market, the new "Amarok" will compete with popular pickup models such as the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Mitsubishi Triton.

With the new model, Volkswagen aims to further strengthen its position in the South American market and meet the demand for modern, powerful, and electrified pickup trucks.
