Perenco Holdings has announced its readiness to help increase hydrocarbon production at mature oil and gas fields in Turkmenistan and support the development of fields with limited reserves. The announcement was made by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Armelle Simond, during her address at the 31st international conference and exhibition “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan — 2026” (OGT 2026), currently taking place in Ashgabat.
According to Armelle Simond, over the past 30 years Perenco has developed specialized expertise in efficiently operating long-producing fields and making use of resources with limited reserves. Working at such sites requires tailored technical solutions and substantial capital investment.
The company’s chief executive also highlighted the main challenges encountered during the later stages of production. These include declining reservoir pressure, increasing volumes of water produced from wells and ageing equipment. These conditions require additional technical measures and investment to maintain stable output.
Simond said Perenco seeks to make more effective use of the potential of existing wells. Its approach includes mechanical oil-lifting methods, artificial lift systems and well repair and restoration operations.
The CEO emphasized that one of the key objectives at mature fields is to increase production from existing wells or bring output as close as possible to their maximum potential.
She also noted that contractual mechanisms in the oil and gas industry should create opportunities not only for the exploration and development of new fields but also for improving production at fields already in operation. In Simond’s view, recent steps taken by the Government of Turkmenistan to promote contractual cooperation are expanding the conditions for implementing such projects.
Perenco’s headquarters are located in London and Paris. According to the company, it operates in 12 countries, employs approximately 8,500 people and produces the equivalent of nearly 500,000 barrels of oil per day. Its main areas of expertise include developing mature oil and gas fields and extending their productive lives, operating in shallow offshore waters, and exploiting gas resources using floating liquefied natural gas facilities.
Perenco’s participation in OGT 2026 contributes to discussions on increasing production in Turkmenistan’s oil and gas sector, making more effective use of existing fields and expanding international cooperation.
