New proposals to expand sports cooperation between Turkmenistan and the International Tennis Federation (ITF) have been discussed.

On September 2, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations Vepa Hajiyev met with International Tennis Federation President David Haggerty in New York. During the meeting, views were exchanged on opportunities for further developing bilateral sports cooperation.

The negotiations addressed the preparation of a Memorandum of Understanding between Turkmenistan and the ITF. Proposals were also put forward to expand the exchange of experience and information between national and international sports organizations.

The parties also discussed the possibility of hosting international youth tennis tournaments under the auspices of the International Tennis Federation in Turkmenistan starting in 2027. Holding such competitions can help enhance the experience of young tennis players and strengthen the standing of Turkmen tennis at the international level.

The meeting also touched upon Turkmenistan's active role in sports diplomacy. In particular, attention was drawn to our country's contribution to promoting international cooperation through sports within the UN framework, including via United Nations games.

The parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in developing tennis, creating new opportunities for young athletes, and expanding international sports cooperation.

The meeting was also attended by Eziz Dowletow, President of the Tennis Federation of Turkmenistan.
