Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has arrived on a state visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan. The head of the Indian government was welcomed at the international airport in Tashkent by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

During the visit, a wide range of issues related to the further development of strategic partnership and elevating multi-faceted relations between the two countries to a new level will be discussed.

The talks will focus on strengthening the consistent nature of political ties, expanding cultural and humanitarian cooperation, and developing cooperation in the economic sphere. In particular, the implementation of joint projects in areas such as trade, energy, the chemical industry, geology, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and mechanical engineering will be discussed.

The parties will also exchange views on important international and regional issues. In addition, the prospects for developing interaction within various multilateral cooperation formats will be considered.

Following the visit, a number of bilateral documents and agreements are expected to be signed.

Diplomatic relations between India and Uzbekistan were established on March 18, 1992. The regular exchange of high-level visits between the two countries demonstrates the ongoing development of mutual political relations.

In recent years, trade and economic relations between India and Uzbekistan have also been growing. According to the results of 2025, the trade turnover between the two countries increased by 33.3 percent, exceeding 1.3 billion dollars.

This positive growth continues in 2026. In January–June of this year, the volume of bilateral trade between Uzbekistan and India reached 598 million dollars. This figure is 28.5 percent higher compared to the corresponding period in 2025.

Narendra Modi's current state visit to Uzbekistan aims to develop the strategic partnership between the two countries in new areas and [enhance] trade and economic cooperation.
