Famous Brazilian footballer and Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldinho has returned to professional football at the age of 46. The former global star was introduced as a new player for Italian club Ravenna, which plays in Italy's third division.
The presentation ceremony for Ronaldinho took place in the Italian city of Ravenna. He stepped onto the pitch wearing his new team's kit. The player's shirt featured the number 10, which has been associated with him for many years.
"I am very happy to be here with my friends. We have a team that can do good things," Ronaldinho said at the presentation.
The Brazilian footballer noted that he does not yet know whether he will participate in his new club's matches, stating that this decision depends on the coach. He also added that returning to Italian football is a pleasant moment for him and expressed his desire to help his team achieve victories.
Ronaldinho also stated that his physical condition is good. He noted that scoring the 300th goal of his career would be a particularly memorable event for him.
Ronaldinho signed a contract with Ravenna in June of this year. The former Brazilian star is not only a player for his new club but also one of its investors.
Having finished his football career in 2015 at the Brazilian club Fluminense, Ronaldinho is considered one of the most popular players in world football. As part of Spanish club Barcelona, he twice became the national champion and won the Champions League trophy. He also played for clubs such as France's Paris Saint-Germain, Italy's AC Milan, and Brazil's Flamengo, Atlético Mineiro, and Grêmio.
Achieving great success at the national team level as well, Ronaldinho became a World Champion in 2002 and won the Copa América in 1999. He won a bronze medal with the Brazil national team at the 2008 Olympic Games.
In 2005, Ronaldinho was awarded the prestigious Ballon d'Or, given to the world's best footballer by France Football magazine.
Currently, Ravenna competes in the third division of the Italian football championship. Ronaldinho's return to professional football has sparked great interest not only in Italy, but in the global football community as well.
