The Russian Federation and Turkmenistan are developing cooperation to establish a new transport route leading to the Indian Ocean. It is planned that the new railway system will pass through the territories of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, via Pakistan, to the coast of the Indian Ocean.

This was reported by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin.

In the planned transport corridor, Turkmenistan will act as one of the key transit hubs. As part of the project, the logistics route referred to as the "Eastern Caspian bypass" will also be of particular importance.

According to Marat Khusnullin, relevant Russian agencies are not only developing railway infrastructure but are also holding talks on creating highways with Central Asian countries leading to the southern seas.

The development of new transport routes will not only strengthen Central Asia's position in the international logistics system, but will also create additional opportunities for Russia to access southern markets and seaports.

In the current geopolitical and economic conditions, the establishment of new transport corridors through Central Asia is considered important from the perspective of diversifying international trade routes.

For Turkmenistan, such projects can enable the effective use of the country's favorable geographical position, increase the volume of transit cargo transportation, and strengthen its position in the logistics system connecting major Asian markets with other regions of Eurasia.

The implementation of the project could create conditions for expanding transport and logistics cooperation between countries such as Russia, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, as well as the formation of a new trade corridor leading to the ports of the Indian Ocean in the future.
