Young Turkmen chess player Allayar Shirliyew performed successfully at the 32nd International Chess Festival held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, taking first place in the Open A category.

At the competition held from August 15 to 24, the 22-year-old chess player from Ashgabat scored 8 points out of a possible 9, outperforming his competitors. He entered the tournament as the seventh seed with a FIDE rating of 2184, demonstrating a high result among higher-rated and more experienced chess players.

In the final standings, Shirliyew surpassed strong opponents such as International Master Bashir Aiti from Syria and Richiliu III Salcedo from the Philippines. This victory in Abu Dhabi also had a positive impact on the Turkmen chess player's international rating, adding 40,6 points to his rating.

The international chess festival was organized by the Abu Dhabi Chess Club and brought together strong chess players from around the world. In the Masters tournament held during the same days, prominent international grandmasters, including Daniil Dubov, David Paravyan, and Pa Yinyan, also competed.

Allayar Shirliyew's victory in Abu Dhabi has become another testament to the recent successes achieved by the Turkmen chess school. In August, at the Asian Youth Championship in Mumbai, Lala Shohradova won a gold medal in rapid and a silver medal in blitz. Previously, the Turkmenistan national team managed to win a record 16 medals at the Central and Northern Asia Championship in Kyrgyzstan.

The victory won in Abu Dhabi once again demonstrated the growing prestige of Turkmen chess on the international stage and the successful performance of young athletes in high-level competitions.
