A delegation from Turkmenistan is participating in the 9th World "One Health" Congress held in the capital of Portugal, Lisbon. The international forum, running from September 4 to 7, brings together scientists, experts, and government officials from around the world.

During the congress, Arslan Soltanmyradow, National Coordinator for the Implementation of the "One Health" Approach and Head of the International and Scientific Relations Department of the State Veterinary Service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan, delivered a presentation at the relevant session. He briefed international experts on Turkmenistan's experience in developing intersectoral cooperation to ensure biological and environmental safety.

The "One Health" approach recognizes that the health of humans, animals, and the environment are closely interconnected. Therefore, coordinated action across medicine, veterinary science, ecology, and agriculture is considered vital for preventing infectious diseases, detecting zoonotic diseases, and mitigating environmental risks.

Developing inter-agency information exchange and surveillance in this area makes it possible to detect dangerous infections at an early stage, prevent the spread of antimicrobial resistance, and reduce climate change-related risks.

Turkmenistan's presentation of its national experience at the international congress marks an important milestone in aligning the country's biosafety and veterinary control practices with international standards.

Advancing the "One Health" principle is essential not only for safeguarding public health but also for ensuring animal welfare, the resilience of natural ecosystems, and enhancing the agricultural sector's capacity to withstand risks.

The participation of Turkmen representatives in the Lisbon forum creates new opportunities for expanding international cooperation and further strengthening inter-agency relations in this field.
