
Japanese scientists have found that consuming powdered green matcha tea effectively suppresses allergic sneezing fits. According to the research results, this drink does not eliminate the root cause of the allergy or change the gut microflora, but instead acts as a neuromodulator. Active substances in the tea directly inhibit the activity of the brain's nerve center responsible for the sneezing reflex.
While the ability of green tea to alleviate the symptoms of hay fever (pollen allergy) has been known for a long time, the specific mechanism of matcha’s action remained unknown. Most previous studies focused on how tea components suppress the immune response or how they alter the composition of gut bacteria.
