Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has awarded the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the country’s highest state decoration — the “Altyn Kyran” (“Golden Eagle”) Order. The award ceremony took place in Astana following high-level Turkmen–Kazakh negotiations.
According to the newspaper Turkmenistan, the award was granted for the Turkmen leader’s contribution to strengthening friendly relations, good-neighborliness and strategic partnership between the two countries, for the comprehensive development of interstate cooperation, and for fostering closer ties between the brotherly peoples.
Presenting the award, President Tokayev highlighted Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s personal role in reinforcing the traditional Turkmen–Kazakh friendship and good-neighborly cooperation.
In his response, the President of Turkmenistan expressed gratitude for the prestigious award and emphasized that he accepts it as a sign of respect for the people of Turkmenistan and as a symbol of the enduring friendship that has united the two nations for many centuries.
The President of Turkmenistan is in Kazakhstan on a state visit from November 24 to 25.
The “Altyn Kyran” Order, established in 1995, is Kazakhstan’s highest state honor. It is awarded to individuals with outstanding service to the republic, including distinguished state, public and political figures. In June 2022, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, received the same award.
