Uzbekistan Proposes Creating a Community of Central Asia

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed elevating the status of the Consultative Meeting of Central Asian heads of state to a strategic cooperation format. The information was reported by a special correspondent of Kazinform.

Chairing the summit, President Mirziyoyev introduced several initiatives aimed at modernizing the meeting’s structure and enhancing its importance.

“It is time for our meetings to move beyond ordinary regional dialogue and to function in a strategic format — the Community of Central Asia. Therefore, we propose drafting a document that will define in detail the institutional and organizational foundations of the Consultative Meetings. It is also necessary to establish a secretariat that will operate on a rotational basis. In addition, the status of national coordinators should be raised to the level of special representatives of the presidents,” the Uzbek leader stated.

Another proposal from Shavkat Mirziyoyev was the creation of a Council of Elders, consisting of respected public figures with rich life experience. According to him, this initiative will strengthen intergenerational ties, deepen regional cooperation, and uphold the unique identity of Central Asia based on shared values and traditions of public diplomacy.

During the summit, Azerbaijan was also accepted as an equal member of the Consultative Meeting of Central Asian heads of state.
