Amazon.com Inc. announced the closure of its «Amazon Fresh» and «Amazon Go» stores. The company will now focus on online grocery delivery and expanding its high-end «Whole Foods Market» chain. Some of the closed locations will become «Whole Foods» stores.
"Amazon.com Inc." has announced that it will close its "Amazon Fresh" grocery stores as well as its "Amazon Go" automated stores. This was stated in the company's press release.
The company will now focus its attention on online grocery delivery services and the expansion of the high-end "Whole Foods Market" chain, which specializes in natural products. Some of the closed locations will be converted into "Whole Foods" stores.
Amazon plans to open more than 100 new "Whole Foods" stores over the next few years. The company acquired this chain in 2017 for approximately 13.5 billion US dollars.
