Australia expressed gratitude to Turkmenistan for assisting in the transit of its citizens from Iran. The appreciation was conveyed by Ambassador John William Geering during a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmet Gurbanov.
On March 12, 2026, the Ambassador of Australia to Turkmenistan (with residence in Moscow), John William Geering, met with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, Ahmet Gurbanov, in Ashgabat. During the meeting, the Ambassador expressed gratitude to the Turkmen side for its support in facilitating the transit of Australian citizens arriving from Iran. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on Thursday.
During the talks, the parties discussed the current state and development prospects of bilateral relations between Turkmenistan and Australia.
Particular attention was paid to strengthening the political-diplomatic dialogue and expanding cooperation in the trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides confirmed their readiness to continue a constructive dialogue aimed at further strengthening the friendly relations between Turkmenistan and Australia.
