Turkmenistan is participating in the International Transport Forum summit in Leipzig, focusing on sustainable transport and financing strategies.
The annual summit of the International Transport Forum (ITF) has commenced in Leipzig, Germany, under the theme "Greening Transport: Keeping Focus in Times of Crisis" (Financing Sustainable Transport). A delegation from Turkmenistan is actively participating in this prestigious event, which is being held under the presidency of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The forum has gathered transport ministers from the 69 ITF member states, heads of major logistics companies, and experts from international organizations. The Turkmen delegation is led by Suleyman Durdyyev, Deputy Chairman of the "Turkmenhowayollary" Agency, and includes representatives from the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the "Demiryollary" Agency.
The summit's agenda focuses on enhancing the resilience of transport systems under modern conditions. Participants are discussing financing strategies to counter the following risks:
- Climate change and extreme weather events;
- Cyberattacks and digital security;
- Geopolitical instability and the impact of pandemics.
The country's participation in this forum is a continuation of Turkmenistan's strategic course toward diversifying international transport corridors. The transport diplomacy implemented under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov is focused on:
- Adapting all modes of transport to global standards.
- Integrating innovative technologies and "green" solutions into the sector.
- Steadily enhancing Turkmenistan's role as a reliable transit hub in the Eurasian space.
The International Transport Forum will continue its work until May 8. The agreements reached at this forum are expected to provide new impetus to the development of sustainable transport systems regionally and globally.
