Turkmenistan Participates in UNEP Methane Emissions Conference in Abu Dhabi

Turkmenistan participated in the annual OGMP 2.0 meeting organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Abu Dhabi. Discussions focused on reducing methane emissions, achieving Level 5 of the Gold Standard reporting, and establishing an MRV system. The delegation also held bilateral meetings with international partners.
A delegation from Turkmenistan attended the annual meeting for the implementation of the Oil & Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP) 2.0, a program under the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), held in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The Turkmen delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, as well as the State Concerns "Türkmengaz" and "Türkmennebit."
The conference brought together companies specialized in the oil and gas sector, along with government and academic representatives. One of the main topics of discussion was taking concrete measures to reduce methane emissions with the goal of achieving the Level 5 "Gold Standard" reporting. During the conference, the Turkmen delegation also held bilateral meetings with representatives from the World Bank and UNEP. These meetings focused on the potential role of the OGMP 2.0 standard and a proposed grant project to establish a Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system for methane emissions.
