The women's national team of Turkmenistan achieved great success at the VI Asian Beach Games ongoing in the beautiful city of Sanya (Hainan Island) in southern China. Our athletes managed to qualify for the semifinals in handball.
A total of eight strong teams participated in the women's handball competition, divided into two groups. Turkmenistan's team competed in Group "B" against China, Mongolia, and Sri Lanka.
The match results for our athletes were as follows:
- First Round: The team coached by Gulendam Narbayeva and Marina Divanova confidently defeated Sri Lanka in both sets (12:10 and 8:4).
- Second Round: In the match against the host nation China, our girls gained valuable experience despite the score (3:16, 13:22).
- Third Round: The most exciting moments occurred in the game against Mongolia. After losing the first set 14:16, our athletes won the second set 12:10. The match was decided by shoot-outs (bullets), where our team was more precise, winning 10:4.
Having secured second place in the group, Turkmenistan will face the winner of Group "A"—Vietnam—in the semifinals. Vietnam has so far defeated Thailand, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. The other semifinal will be played between China and Thailand.
Following a 10-year hiatus since the 2016 Danang Games due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these games are now being held in a grand atmosphere. Turkmenistan has been participating in these games since 2010 and has won a total of 27 medals (3 gold, 8 silver, and 16 bronze) to date.
