Microsoft has standardized the restore point retention period in Windows 11 (version 24H2 and later) — they are now automatically deleted after 60 days. This decision simplifies restore management but also requires users to create restore points more frequently to ensure reliable data protection.
Microsoft has officially confirmed that restore points in Windows 11 version 24H2 and later will be automatically deleted after 60 days. This change standardizes the retention period, which previously varied between 10 and 90 days for different users.
In earlier versions such as Windows 10 and Windows Server, restore points were retained for 90 days. In Windows 11, the new value can be checked via PowerShell — the RPLifeInterval parameter is set to 5,184,000 seconds (60 days).
Users are advised to create restore points more frequently to ensure they always have up-to-date backups of their system.
