In Kazakhstan, drivers are now allowed to choose their own license plates

Starting January 1, 2026, car owners in Kazakhstan can select state license plates according to their preference. The cost for these plates will be 10 or 15 monthly calculation indices. This allows drivers to personalize their vehicle numbers.
In Kazakhstan, car owners can now select their state license plates (SLP) themselves.
According to Kazinform, the rules allowing free choice of license plates with any combination of numbers and letters came into effect on January 1, 2026.
The cost of a license plate with any desired combination of numbers and letters will be 10 or 15 monthly calculation indices (MCI), except for high-demand plates, for which separate fees apply.
The monthly calculation index is a legally established coefficient used to calculate allowances, taxes, fines, and state fees; in 2026, it amounts to 4,325 tenge (~$8.52).
