Turkmenistan, Russia, and Afghanistan are preparing to launch a new transit corridor. The project will boost regional logistics and trade.
Aiming to elevate interregional trade relations to a new level, Turkmenistan, Russia, and Afghanistan are preparing to sign a historic agreement to establish a new transit corridor. This initiative is designed to increase the efficiency of freight transport along the North-South route.
A Historic Step in Kazan According to "Tolonews," the parties will sign a trilateral document in May during the international forum "Russia — Islamic World: KazanForum" held in the capital of Tatarstan. This project, spearheaded by Afghanistan's Minister of Industry and Commerce, Nuruddin Azizi, has the potential to fundamentally reshape the region's logistics chain.
Key Features of the Project:
- Supervision and Coordination: Oleg Korobchenko, the Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan, will coordinate the organizational efforts for the new corridor.
- Initial Shipments: The first trial cargo caravans are expected to be dispatched from the territory of Tatarstan.
- Turkmenistan’s Transit Capacity: Turkmenistan’s favorable geographical location and modern transport-logistics infrastructure will serve as the primary link in the project’s implementation.
Strategic Points: Border and Infrastructure Turkmenistan’s 800-kilometer border with Afghanistan is a strategic transit point for this new corridor. Currently, two major land and rail connections operate in this direction:
- Ymamnazar — Aqina
- Serhetabat — Torghundi
This new transit corridor will not only increase trade turnover but also contribute to regional stability. While Russian manufacturers gain a shorter route to South Asian markets, Turkmenistan will significantly enhance its transit revenues and international prestige.
