On April 14, 2026, an important business meeting was held in Vienna between representatives of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan and Susanne Raab, Director General of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD). This meeting demonstrated the readiness of both parties to raise relations in the field of migration and border security to a new level.
During the talks, the parties focused on several key issues for modernizing the migration system:
- Utilizing international experience in ensuring border security.
- Increasing efficiency by transitioning migration services and information systems to a digital format.
- Developing strategies that support safe and legal migration.
Special emphasis was placed on the implementation of regional and international projects. In particular, the following were highlighted:
- Results and prospects of the ongoing border management program in Central Asia.
- Turkmenistan’s active participation in international platforms such as the Prague Process and the Budapest Process.
- Organizing joint training workshops and implementing pilot projects.
ICMPD Director General Susanne Raab confirmed that her organization would continue to provide support in ensuring regulated, safe, and legal migration. At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties noted their commitment to creating conditions for safe migration and agreed on the consistent implementation of specific initiatives and cooperation projects. The meeting will continue its work until April 17.
This step is further evidence of Turkmenistan's growing role in international migration policy and its commitment to modern security standards.
