Turkmen-Russian Diplomatic Schools: New Capacities for Science and Education Cooperation

Cooperation between Turkmen and Russian diplomatic schools is reaching a new level. Meetings in Moscow focused on academic exchange, joint programs, and youth diplomacy initiatives.
From April 21 to 22, 2026, a delegation led by Gulshat Yusupova, Rector of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, paid a working visit to Moscow. This visit was aimed at raising the relationship between the two countries' primary diplomatic training institutions to a new level of quality.
The main event of the visit was meetings held at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO). Within the framework of the cooperation agreement signed in 2017, the heads of the universities focused on the following areas:
- Academic Exchange: Establishing a regular exchange of experience between teachers and students.
- Joint Curricula: Developing joint educational projects in key areas such as "International Relations" and "Energy Diplomacy."
- Youth Diplomacy: Increasing student involvement in public-diplomatic activities.
During discussions with the heads of the CIS Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the strategic nature of cultural and humanitarian relations was emphasized. The parties identified several promising new directions:
- Language Studies: Publishing specialized teaching materials, including a new joint textbook on the "Turkmen Language."
- Scientific Cooperation: Mutual publication of academic works and organizing joint research.
- Short-term Internships: Organizing short-term courses for Master's students to study the nuances of diplomatic service.
