
On February 10, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Turkmenistan hosted an official reception on the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the Victory of the Islamic Revolution and the National Day of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The event was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Turkmenistan, Ali Mojtaba Rouzbehani, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps and other officials.
In his speech, Ambassador Ali Mojtaba Rouzbehani spoke about Iran’s achievements in 2025, noting that the country strengthened its position among the top ten nations in the Global Innovation Index. He also highlighted accomplishments in the pharmaceutical sector, stating that Iran ranks first among 13 countries and fourth globally in this field.
The Ambassador emphasized Iran’s significant achievements in the aerospace industry, including the successful launch of the research satellites “Hoarom,” “Zadar,” and “Cham,” as well as the “Ghasem” and “Simorgh” launch vehicles.
Ali Mojtaba Rouzbehani underlined the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Iran and Turkmenistan. According to him, numerous bilateral meetings at various levels were held in 2025. In particular, meetings between the foreign ministers took place in Tehran and Ashgabat in February, May, and June; transport ministers held talks in April; and parliamentary delegations of the two countries met in Ashgabat in May.
The Ambassador also drew special attention to the visit of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Pezeshkian, to Ashgabat in December of last year to participate in the International Conference “Peace and Trust,” as well as to the visit of Iran’s First Vice President Mr. Aref to Awaza in August 2025 to attend the UN Summit on Landlocked Developing Countries.
He further noted the significance of the 18th meeting of the Iran–Turkmen Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, held in Tehran in May 2025. The meeting aimed to increase transit cargo volumes to 20 million tons and raise trade turnover to 5 billion US dollars. Ali Mojtaba Rouzbehani emphasized the importance of completing planned projects and focusing on new opportunities in industry, transport and transit, energy, agriculture, and artificial intelligence.
Regarding cultural cooperation, the Ambassador highlighted the growing participation of Iranian artists, miniature masters, and music groups in events in Turkmenistan, as well as the involvement of prominent Turkmen artists in festivals held in Iran. In the field of science, Iranian schoolchildren and students actively participated in scientific Olympiads and conferences organized in Turkmenistan.
The Ambassador stated that the volume of economic relations between the two countries increased by 25 percent in 2025, while the number of diplomatic visits at the ministerial level and above exceeded 13.
In his remarks, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov expressed gratitude for the invitation and emphasized that trade and economic relations hold a special place in bilateral cooperation between Iran and Turkmenistan.
Rashid Meredov noted that the joint intergovernmental commission serves as an important mechanism for strengthening and expanding relations between the two countries. He also mentioned that last year a specialized exhibition dedicated to Turkmenistan’s export potential was held in the Iranian city of Gorgan, and in November a specialized exhibition of Iran’s Golestan Province took place in the city of Balkanabat. A delegation headed by the Governor of Golestan Province visited Turkmenistan to participate in the exhibition.
The Minister reported that approximately 40 mutual visits were carried out during the period in question, and more than 100 meetings were held across various areas of cooperation.
The event was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, demonstrating the commitment of both countries to further develop and deepen their cooperation.
