
Yesterday, at the largest Olympic Stadium in Central Asia located in the capital’s Olympic Complex, a Round of 16 match of the AFC Champions League II was held between Turkmenistan’s “Arkadag” and Saudi Arabia’s “Al-Nassr”.
Thanks to the initiatives of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Hero-Arkadag, and the efforts of the esteemed President, large-scale work is being carried out to develop sports, enhance the global prestige of Turkmen sports, promote mass participation, and expand healthy lifestyle principles through the Olympic movement.
As noted by the esteemed President, sport is an important factor in strengthening universal peace, friendship, and cooperation among nations.
The Football Federation of Turkmenistan was established in 1992. In 1994 it joined FIFA and the AFC. The national team reached the quarterfinals of the Asian Games that same year. Since 1995, it has participated annually in international competitions.
The visit of FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the presentation of a special FIFA jersey, official ball, and emblem to the Head of State demonstrated global interest in Turkmen football.
The match between “Arkadag” and “Al-Nassr” took place at the Olympic Stadium built on the initiative of Hero-Arkadag. Before kickoff, a concert program was held.
From the first minutes, the game was intense. Both teams demonstrated skill and determination. The support of thousands of fans inspired the “Arkadag” players.
The match ended 0:1 in favor of “Al-Nassr”. Despite the result, the game was described as a celebration for the people, and athletes will continue striving for greater achievements.
The match has been written into history in golden letters, with players’ dedication, fans’ support, and international sports cooperation marking the greatest victory of the football evening in Ashgabat.
