The 84th international meeting of the Council for Railway Transport of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) member countries has commenced in the capital of Turkmenistan. This high-level forum has become a crucial platform for elevating the region's transport and logistics potential to a new level.
The meeting is in the spotlight not only for CIS member states but also for neighboring regions. Participants in the forum include:
- Member States: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.
- Delegations and Observers: Heads of transport authorities from Afghanistan, Georgia, Iran, Latvia, and Estonia.
- International Organizations: A delegation from the CIS Executive Committee and international trade unions.
Meeting participants are evaluating the results of work performed in 2025 and early 2026, while defining key directions for future development:
- Coordinated Tariff Policy: Creating favorable economic conditions for transit and interstate transportation.
- Technological Regulations: Increasing the safety and efficiency of train operations.
- Inventory and Settlements: Improving container inventory and mutual economic settlements.
The II "Young Railway Workers" forum is also being held alongside the main negotiations. Training workshops, discussions on the future of the industry, and bilateral meetings help young specialists enhance their professional experience.
The Turkmen side has prepared a rich program for the guests to introduce them to the country's history and culture. During the visit, guests will visit:
- The Ashgabat Equestrian Sports Complex;
- The State Museum of Turkmenistan;
- The newly opened "Magtymguly Pyragy" cultural and park complex.
The decisions to be made in Ashgabat will drive the deepening of railway integration and increase the efficiency of transport corridors throughout the CIS region.
