In modernizing Turkmenistan's transport and logistics system, great importance is attached to the construction of high-speed motorways. The creation of new routes meeting international standards improves the efficiency of freight and passenger traffic, ensures road safety, and expands the country's capabilities within international transport corridors.
One of the major implemented projects in this direction is the Ashgabat — Turkmenabat high-speed motorway. Stretching for approximately 600 kilometers, the construction of this highway was carried out in three stages. The implementation of the project has further strengthened modern transport connectivity between the eastern and western regions of the country.
International experience and modern technical requirements were relied upon during the construction of the motorway. The road works took into account DIN standards used on high-speed motorways in Germany, as well as relevant construction norms and regulations. As a result, modern conditions have been created for the safe and comfortable movement of vehicles.
Another important project is the construction of the Ashgabat — Turkmenbashi high-speed motorway. The implementation of this road will enable the formation of a unified transport corridor extending from the eastern border of Turkmenistan to the Turkmenbashi International Seaport on the Caspian Sea coast.
The length of the planned highway is expected to be around 560–600 kilometers. Starting from Ashgabat, it will pass through the territory of the Ahal and Balkan velayats and, as a continuation of the Ashgabat — Turkmenabat motorway, further enhance the capabilities of the "East — West" international transport route.
The creation of the new transport corridor can facilitate more efficient cargo transportation from China and other Central Asian states via Turkmenabat and Ashgabat to the port of Turkmenbashi. In addition, this road will contribute to the development of international freight traffic heading across the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, and Europe.
The opportunities associated with the expansion of high-speed motorways are not limited to the logistics sector alone. The development of a modern and convenient road infrastructure also helps boost domestic tourism and improve conditions for visiting the historical, cultural, and natural sites of our country.
Increased transport connectivity creates new opportunities for the development of sectors such as hospitality, public catering, trade, and leisure services. Thus, the formation of a modern road infrastructure acts as one of the economic conditions giving momentum to the development of various industries.
The construction of high-speed motorways is an important part of Turkmenistan's strategic projects aimed not only at improving the domestic transport system, but also at strengthening the country's position in the international transport and logistics space.
