Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev confirmed that Astana is ready to take part in developing the Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan transport-logistics corridor. He stated this in an exclusive interview with Pakistan’s The News International on 5 February 2026 and shared his views on regional issues between Kazakhstan and Pakistan.
According to the President, the corridor is strategically important for strengthening regional cooperation and expanding transport connectivity to South Asia. Tokayev emphasized that Pakistan also shows strong interest in close cooperation on this strategic route.
The Kazakh leader stressed that implementing transit and transport projects requires active and coordinated participation from all parties.
The Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan corridor envisions the construction of the Herat–Turghundi railway section. The trans-Afghan corridor provides access to Pakistan’s Karachi port and, coordinated with the “North–South” project, ensures connectivity to ports in Gulf countries and India.
