In the first leg of the Spanish Cup semi-final, Madrid's Atletico hosted Barcelona at their home stadium. The match, played on the night of February 13th, ended in a massive 4-0 victory for the home team.
The score opened in the 7th minute with an own goal by Eric Garcia. In the 14th minute, forward Antoine Griezmann doubled Atletico's advantage. In the 33rd minute, Atletico striker Ademola Lookman increased the lead further. In the stoppage time of the first half, Julian Alvarez scored the fourth goal for the Madrid side.
At the beginning of the second half, Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi managed to score, but after a seven-minute VAR review, the goal was disallowed. The situation became even more difficult for the Catalans when Eric Garcia, who had already scored an own goal, received a red card in the 86th minute and was sent off.
Notably, this is the first time since 1989 that Barcelona has lost to Atletico by a four-goal margin. The return leg will take place on the night of March 4th.
