
The ferry “Barda,” operated by the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO), has resumed operations following repair works and completed its first voyage to the Turkmenbashi International Seaport in Turkmenistan, delivering 32 rail wagons and 12 trailers.
According to ASCO’s announcement on Wednesday, the repairs were carried out at Azerbaijan’s “Zigh” Ship Repair and Shipbuilding Yard. The works included hull welding, renewal of pipelines and electrical installations, as well as modernization of the steam boiler and watertight doors.
The mechanical and electrical components of the deck cranes, as well as locomotive and wagon securing equipment, were adjusted. The above-water section of the vessel and wagon decks were cleaned and painted in two coats. Crew living quarters, utility areas, and sanitary facilities were refurbished.
The vessel is 154 meters long and 17 meters wide. The ferry’s maximum speed is 12.5 knots, and its cargo capacity reaches up to 5,500 tons.
