The official website of the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) has published the Concept of Turkmenistan's Chairmanship of the CIS in 2026 and the Plan of Measures for its implementation.
The Concept defines five main areas: ensuring peace and security, developing the economy and transport links, digital transformation, the environmental agenda, and humanitarian cooperation. In the political sphere, it also envisions strengthening regional stability and intensifying diplomatic dialogue among CIS countries.
As noted in the Concept, the economic direction includes the development of the "North–South" and "East–West" transport corridors, expanding energy cooperation, and encouraging trade and investment. The environmental agenda involves developing joint projects regarding renewable energy sources and climate change adaptation.
According to the action plan, 25 major events are scheduled for 2026, seven of which will be held in Turkmenistan. These include the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government in May, the Economic Council meeting in September, the meetings of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers and the Council of Heads of State on October 9 in Avaza, and the meeting of the Council for Cultural Cooperation in Ashgabat.
