Bitget, one of the world's major cryptocurrency exchanges, announced that it had been subjected to a hacker attack, resulting in the theft of digital assets with a total value of $351.6 million.

Following the attack, the platform temporarily suspended withdrawal operations. At the same time, the company stated that customer assets remain secure.

According to CoinDesk, citing public blockchain data, on September 24, various cryptocurrencies worth approximately $183 million were withdrawn from the exchange to a single account address within an hour. These included ETH, USDT, USDC, AVAX, BNB, and other digital assets.

Later, Bitget executive Gracie Chen reported that the total amount of stolen funds reached $351.6 million. According to her, the attack affected only a portion of the "hot" crypto wallets connected to the internet. "Cold" wallets kept offline were not damaged.

Bitget has not yet provided complete information on how the attack was carried out. The company head stated that a full report on the causes of the incident and related measures will be published within 24 hours.

Pending the completion of the internal investigation, Bitget has suspended withdrawal operations. Gracie Chen noted that customer assets are secure and that the losses incurred can be fully covered by the exchange's $464 million insurance fund.

According to Bloomberg, Bitget was registered in 2018 in the Seychelles and is among the world's largest centralized cryptocurrency exchanges. According to the company's own data, the number of registered users on the platform reaches 120 million.
