US President Donald Trump has voiced strong opposition to calls for the resignation of Gianni Infantino, President of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).

Writing on his social media network Truth Social, the American leader stated: "If FIFA were to even consider replacing Gianni Infantino for any reason, it would be making a terrible mistake." Trump emphasized that Infantino had hosted the "most successful World Cup in history" and asserted that future tournaments would fail to maintain high profitability without Infantino leading the governing body.

Tensions between FIFA and various football organizations—including the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA)—escalated in July. The backlash followed Infantino's proposal to involve private investors in FIFA world championship tournaments. Critics of the initiative accused the FIFA head of prioritizing commercial revenue over the health of players, fan experience, and the integrity of the sport.

According to Interfax, although Infantino subsequently stepped back from the controversial investment plan, his critics continue to demand his resignation.
