During the holy month of Ramadan, diplomatic missions of Muslim countries accredited in Turkmenistan organize traditional evening meals — iftars.
On February 19, the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Ashgabat held a ceremonial iftar. The event was led by the UAE Ambassador, Ahmed Al Hameli. Previously, the Embassy of Libya in Turkmenistan organized a similar event. On February 23, the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Ashgabat hosted an iftar ceremony.
An integral part of each iftar is the collective prayer: the Grand Mufti of the country or a representative of the Muftiate of Turkmenistan performs the prayer together with the assembled guests. This emphasizes the spiritual nature of the events and their significance within the context of Muslim traditions.
It is expected that in the near future, iftars will be held at other embassies of Muslim countries represented in Turkmenistan. Such events traditionally bring together diplomats, representatives of local authorities, and the public, contributing to the strengthening of intercultural dialogue and friendly ties between nations.
