On 25 October 2026, most European countries switched to winter time. During the night leading into Sunday, clocks were turned back by one hour. At 3:00 a.m. local time, clocks showed 2:00 a.m.
Winter time will remain in effect across European countries until the end of March 2027. The return to summer time is scheduled for 28 March 2027, when clocks will be moved forward by one hour.
The European Union has been discussing the possibility of abolishing seasonal clock changes since 2019. However, member states have not yet reached a common agreement on the issue, so the current system remains in place.
Some countries around the world do not observe seasonal clock changes. These include Russia, Belarus and Iceland.
Seasonal clock changes are intended to make more efficient use of daylight. Nevertheless, the possibility of ending this practice remains a topic of discussion in European countries.
