The French government has announced water usage restrictions covering 70% of the national territory due to severe drought and water scarcity, according to TASS, citing AFP.

A red/maximum alert level regarding water shortages has been declared in 67 departments, with an elevated crisis level active in an additional 21 departments. Under these conditions, unrestricted water consumption is strictly limited to essential needs, including healthcare, civil safety, drinking water supply, and basic hygiene.

During high alert levels, restrictions apply to watering gardens and green spaces, filling swimming pools, washing vehicles, and agricultural irrigation.

Minister for Ecological Transition Monique Barbut previously reported on July 27 that drinking water supply issues had affected 47 departments. Water supply disruptions have impacted over 30,000 residents across 80 municipalities, requiring drinking water to be delivered via water trucks and bottled supplies.
