
On March 12, 2026, a meeting was held between the Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, M. Bashimova, and the ILO Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, Peter Van Rooij. This was reported on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Turkmen side congratulated Peter Van Rooij on his appointment to the new position, expressing confidence that his professional experience would contribute to the further strengthening of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the International Labour Organization.
The parties noted that within the framework of Turkmenistan's cooperation with the United Nations system, relations with the ILO are being developed consistently. They emphasized the systematic nature of this partnership, which is implemented through joint roadmaps and projects.
During the conversation, issues regarding the expansion of the institutional involvement of UN specialized agencies in Turkmenistan were discussed, as well as the implementation of joint projects aimed at promoting decent work principles and developing social dialogue.
The importance of implementing the Roadmap for Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the International Labour Organization for 2026 was highlighted.
As part of Turkmenistan's participation in the work of the ILO, it was noted that the country regularly submits reports on the organization's conventions and will participate in the next session of the International Labour Conference to be held in Geneva this June.
Following the meeting, both parties confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening the cooperation between Turkmenistan and the International Labour Organization.
