
On March 13, 2026, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Head of the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for Central Asia, Ms. Biljana Milosevic.
During the meeting, the parties discussed contemporary issues of humanitarian cooperation, as well as future prospects for developing interaction between Turkmenistan and the ICRC.
The Turkmen side emphasized that based on Turkmenistan's status of permanent neutrality, the country consistently contributes to strengthening peace, trust, and effective international cooperation. It was also noted that special importance is attached to the humanitarian dimensions of regional security and the protection of the civilian population.
Turkmenistan's unwavering commitment to the norms of international humanitarian law was confirmed, along with its support for core principles of humanitarian action such as humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence. The Turkmen side highly appreciated the ICRC's work in assisting people in complex humanitarian situations and promoting international humanitarian law.
The parties exchanged views on implementing the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan to declare 2028 the Year of International Law.
The interlocutors also discussed issues related to monitoring the humanitarian situation in the region and opportunities for expanding cooperation, including the exchange of experience, expert-level consultations, and the organization of joint training events.
In this regard, special attention was paid to strengthening the capacity of national structures involved in emergency response within the humanitarian sphere.
