
On January 27, 2026, a regular meeting of the Council of Permanent Representatives of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) was held in Tehran. This was reported on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, issues related to the implementation of activities envisaged in the Awaza Programme of Action for 2024–2034 were discussed.
In particular, the Organization proposed implementing the third priority area of the Programme — “Transit, Transport and Connectivity” — within the ECO region. This proposal, along with the organization of meetings aimed at its implementation, was supported by the Council.
The Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the ECO, Ambassador Y. Gaýypov, expressed gratitude to the ECO Secretariat and representatives of member states for supporting the initiative and voiced confidence in the active participation of all parties in its implementation.
Additionally, information was presented on the work carried out and future plans of the Organization within the framework of the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries under the theme “Awaza Programme of Action 2024–2034 and the ECO Region.”
Earlier, at the initiative of the Turkmen side, the third priority area of the Awaza Programme of Action — “Transit, Transport and Connectivity” — was included in the draft ECO document “Strategic Objectives of Economic Cooperation – 2035,” scheduled for adoption in the coming period.
Furthermore, a dedicated section titled “AWAZA Programme of Action 2024–2034 and the ECO Region” was launched on the official website of the Economic Cooperation Organization.
