
The Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Gurbanmammet Elyasov, held a meeting with Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on key issues of bilateral cooperation and highly assessed the results of 2025, describing it as a new and significant chapter in the history of Turkmen–Azerbaijani relations. It was emphasized that the past year was marked by high-level mutual visits as well as the active development of cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
It was particularly noted that, thanks to the initiatives of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, as well as the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, bilateral relations are developing in the spirit of brotherhood and strategic partnership. Active strengthening of cooperation in the fields of energy, transport (including within the framework of the Middle Corridor), trade and culture was highlighted.
The meeting also addressed issues related to international forums, meetings and other events planned to be held in Turkmenistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2026.
Special attention was paid to the 8th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan, scheduled to take place in Turkmenistan in the autumn of 2026. It was noted that Azerbaijan’s first participation in this format as a full-fledged member would be an important step toward further strengthening regional cooperation and dialogue.
