From August 11 to 13, a joint practical training on maritime information exchange was conducted at the Turkmenbashi and Alyat International Sea Ports. Members of Port Control Teams from Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan participated in the event, according to the official website of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan.
The training was led by experts from the World Customs Organization (WCO). The program aimed to develop international cargo turnover in the Caspian Sea, minimize risks by preventing illicit trafficking in maritime traffic, enhance the professional skills and information exchange practices of Port Control Teams, and strengthen cooperation between the Turkmenbashi and Alyat International Sea Ports.
The event commenced on August 11 in Turkmenistan, continued aboard a ship crossing the Caspian Sea, and concluded on August 13 at the Alyat Sea Port in Azerbaijan. Participants exchanged practical experience by jointly analyzing cargo manifests and transport documentation for shipping routes between Turkmenbashi and Alyat, as well as conducting customs inspections of transport vehicles and cargo.
The training was organized by the UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia within the framework of the Global Passenger and Cargo Control Programme, jointly operated by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the World Customs Organization.
