A section of the “Zhanaozen” highway located on Kazakhstan's border with Turkmenistan is planned to be expanded to four-lane traffic. This was reported by the country's Minister of Transport, Nurlan Sauranbayev, during a Kazakh government meeting held on March 3.
According to the “Zakon.kz” publication, Nurlan Sauranbayev stated that work has already begun on developing the pre-feasibility study for the road expansion project on this site, which is part of the “Turkmenistan – Russia” transport corridor.
As noted in the report, work in this direction is planned to be completed by 2026.
Large-scale renovation works on the highway connecting the city of Zhanaozen with the Turkmen-Kazakh border began in August 2025.
