Located in southeastern Turkmenistan, Köýtendag is one of the world’s most unique natural corners. According to ancient legends, the great healer Lukman Hekim collected plants here and studied their medicinal properties. Today, this is scientifically confirmed: about 1,000 plant species are recorded in the region, including over 200 endemic species found nowhere else, making Köýtendag a true natural pharmacy and part of the world heritage.
The fundamental publication “Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan” is a key resource, detailing over 100 local species such as wild onions, alkar, anzur, and Zerafshan trees. It helps combine centuries of traditional medicine with modern scientific knowledge.
