
On March 4, 2026, a meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Mahri Bashimova, and Matilda Bogner, the Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) for Central Asia. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan supports a constructive dialogue on human rights based on mutual respect, strengthening trust, and taking into account national development characteristics.
Special attention was paid to the implementation of the Cooperation Framework Program with the UN for 2026–2030. In this program, human rights issues serve as a key area encompassing all aspects, from social policy and gender equality to the rule of law.
The parties noted the role of the Interdepartmental Commission on ensuring the fulfillment of Turkmenistan's international obligations in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law as a primary platform for coordinating human rights policy and developing interaction with international partners.
The Turkmen side expressed gratitude to the OHCHR for the appointment of an international expert to the position of Human Rights Adviser within the UN Country Team in Turkmenistan. The implementation of this decision is aimed at strengthening the foundation for joint initiatives and effective dialogue.
The parties expressed their readiness to further deepen constructive cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
