
On January 27, 2026, a meeting was held between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Akhmet Gurbanov and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Turkmenistan, Christopher Duggan, with residence in Astana. This was reported on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, the parties expressed mutual interest in further developing effective cooperation between the two countries. In particular, the importance of maintaining a regular political and diplomatic dialogue was emphasized, as well as the closeness of the parties’ approaches to key issues on the international agenda.
Among the priority areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Canada, the sides highlighted the need to intensify interaction in the trade and economic, as well as cultural and humanitarian fields.
Noting the positive nature of cooperation on international platforms, the interlocutors confirmed their readiness to continue the practice of mutual support for initiatives put forward within the framework of the United Nations.
In order to enhance bilateral cooperation, the diplomats considered the possibility of holding consultations between the foreign ministries during the current year. The expediency of further improving the bilateral legal and contractual framework was also emphasized.
